Michael Owen finally returned to the football pitch after a gap of ten months but Reading ruined his comeback party. In what can be termed as a cagey affair, Reading defeated Newcastle United 1-0.

The victory means that Reading is on course to qualify for the next season’s UEFA Cup. Quite an achievement for club like Reading who has come from championship last season to qualify for coveted tournament like UEFA Cup.

Dave Kitson’s scored the only goal of the match in the 51st minute when he volleyed the ball from close range. Michael Owen started quite well when he netted the ball but was adjudged off side by the referee.

Importantly for Newcastle, Owen played through out the match and looked quite lively. But unfortunately, Newcastle lost mid fielders Emre and Antoine Sibierski during the match to injuries. Newcastle strikers Shola Ameobi and Obefami Martins missed two good chances to level the scoreline.
